Author Suzanne G. Rogers has released her latest historical romance novel, Lady of a Gilded Age, continuing an older series. Woot! *pushes one-click button* So I invited her here to tell us a little more about it.

Writing a sequel
by Suzanne G. Rogers
When I was working on my latest release, Lady of a Gilded Age, I did not intend to write a sequel to Duke of a Gilded Age. The working title of the book was The Merry Milliner and the premise revolved around a formerly wealthy young woman who is obliged to use her dowry to open a hat shop. The problem was the unlikable antagonist, who was meant to have a character arc and end up as the heroine’s romantic interest. I just wasn’t feeling the chemistry and wasn’t making much progress on the book at all.
I finally flipped the table over, tossed out the despicable gent, and began thinking about creating an antagonist I would prefer. He would have to be a handsome rogue (naturally), and preferably have a sister who could befriend our heroine and her brother, the Earl of Merrifield.
Then, it occurred to me…I had the perfect fellow all ready to go, in a book I’d written ten years prior. Stephen van Eyck had been a secondary character in Duke and had distinguished himself creditably. I had always wanted to write a book featuring him and his sister, but could never come up with a good plot before now.
Once I plugged Stephen and Louise van Eyck into the story, Lady of a Gilded Age practically wrote itself. Because they were Americans living in England, they had a unique perspective and appreciation for women in business that English society did not exactly share. I brought back a few beloved characters from Duke, but the story revolves around the Van Eyck siblings. I was delighted to give them time to shine because they both deserved to find their own Happily Ever After endings.

So, a decade after the release of Duke of a Gilded Age, I have finally released its sequel. It was a delight to write Lady of a Gilded Age, and I’m hoping everyone who loved Duke will enjoy Lady as well.
