I hate to keep opening the same way, so why don’t we just agree to, well, skip it. 🙂 How are y’all this fine Sunday? I’m doing fine. Got a lot done this week and… drum roll please.
I have a new novel to share with you. Although, by now, maybe you’ve seen it on my Facebook, Twitter, or sidebar? If not, this one is a Victorian romance, circa 1888. Entitled HOUSE OF DARK ENVY, it’s about two ex- young lovers who come back together some years after their break up. The hero’s making a name for himself in the then-very new field of electricity and the heroine is trying to come to terms with possible spinsterhood, while honing her artistic skills.
Here is the cover (isn’t it lovely?)
House of Dark Envy
And the synopsis goes like this:
When Sarahjane attends Lady Morville’s costume party, she never expects to learn her old beau Felix Gryffith is under the illustrious woman’s patronage and stands on the cusp of making a world-changing discovery. Felix, whose lies disgraced her in the eyes of the London elite by labeling her a flirt.
Felix’s love for Sarahjane has never wavered, despite the scandal that forced them apart. He’s desperate to tell her the truth, if he can convince her to listen.
Fate lurked in the shadows that night, years ago. Has it returned to grant Sarahjane and Felix their wishes, or terrorize them?
HOUSE OF DARK ENVY is available at Amazon in ebook and (soon) in paperback, (which should disseminate out to Barnes and Noble, in due time).
The Look Inside feature is taking its sweet time, again, so here’s an excerpt: From the Prologue
Sarahjane slipped into the garden, grabbing onto a wrought iron lattice to steady herself. Her laughter rang through the air. She swung herself around the lattice, and stopped before him, resting her delicate hand on (Felix’s) chest.
Her touch warmed him.
Sarahjane lowered her eyes. “Do it for me, Felix. I’ll give you a kiss, if you do.”
Felix swallowed back surprise and longing, glanced around the garden. Everyone was still inside. He ran a hand down her arm. “I’d love to kiss you,” he said. “But not after. I don’t want to hurt you.”
He feared it might be possible. His worry darkened as if storm clouds filled him. “I might.”
Sarahjane laced her arms around his neck. “Now, then. But don’t disappoint me.”
Was she going to kiss him?
She licked her lips.
Young desire warred with his reason.
“Your father will kill us if he finds out.”
“No he won’t. He knows I love you.”
She loved him.
Sarahjane stood on her toes and leaned closer, brushing her lips against his. Lightning tingled from her lips, into his heart.
Did someone intrude on them? Felix dismissed all but Sarahjane.
He vibrated almost as he had the day the lightning struck him, but this, this was pleasant, in comparison.
She broke the kiss, batted her lashes. “I do love you, you know. Now. Show me?”
He guided Sarahjane a few strides away from the trellis. Then he returned to it and wrapped his fingers around the warm, iron bar.
“Felix!” His older brother stepped into view behind her. “Oh,” he said. “Pardon me for interrupting.”
Sarahjane snapped around.
“What do you want, Jackson?” Felix asked.
This is a standalone Victorian Romance.
I hope that you will enjoy House of Dark Envy! I must say had fun torturing the (ahem) creating these characters. In the course of my research, I became quite enamored of the inventor Tesla, whose history and work I delved into for our hero Felix. I must say, Felix sees Tesla as a colleague (and a little bit of a hero, too, if I can dig into his mind a bit ;)).
🙂 So, yeah. I guess you could say Tesla and Felix became my book boyfriends for a while. At the very least, Tesla added just a smidge of flavor to the story, for me. I hope for you too.
I’ve also already had a guest post/interview, which you can see here. Meanwhile, I’m plotting new things. *rubs hands evilly*
Anyway, that’s what I’ve been doing this past week. Working very hard on getting the new book baby, House of Dark Envy, out into the world. I hope y’all will enjoy it! Please feel free to leave book reviews if you enjoy it and please, spread the word. Tell your friends. Both word of mouth and reviews are important to authors, you know, and I appreciate them all!
(Sorry about any weird formatting here, Blogger is being a bitch and my hubby scared the crap out of me with some loud af video I wasn’t paying attention to–while writing this up. Of course. Oh, well.)
Until later then, have a good week!
