Indie block party week 2

What are my top five books?

1) No surprise here, right?Michael Moorcock’s fantasy classic Elric of Melniboné .

The rest are in no particular order, really.

2) The Mabinogion, a collection of old Welsh mythological tales, for those who don’t know.

3) The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

4) The Song of the Lioness Series by Tamora Pierce

5) Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley

Do they have any particular influence on my manuscripts? Some, I can see a lot of Mists of Avalon and the Mabinogion in Passion’s Sacred Dance. There are definite influences of the Mabinogion on The Artist’s Inheritance as the idea of the broken geas inspired that whole novel. Elric, well, he inspires all my heroes I think. :) The rest are just books I love.If you haven’t read them, I say give them a shot. :)

  1. Neat collection Juli!

I remember reading the Mists of Avalon in high school. It was kind of accidentally on the reading list. That was a surprise, but such a pleasant one, I loved it!

You know I’ve never read the Princess Diaries, only seen the movies (constantly threatening my husband into watching those.) I have read her take on the Arthurian story in Avalon High though, have you heard of it?

Song of the Lioness is very nice. I really aught to read more Tamora Pierce, but its hard to do it without Alanna.

    • Elaine, I know what you mean about Song of the Lioness. She’s got a second series with Alanna and George (no spoilers) I haven’t read it yet though. The Circle of Magic is pretty good too, but I have a feeling reading through them that they’re for a younger crowd. I still enjoy them.

The Princess Diaries aren’t quite like the movies, but I think they’re much better. hell, even my hubby loves them! :) Her Heather Wells series is hilarious too. I have not yet made it to the Avalon High books. I’m sure they’re great.
